Hardly much moved but time and
tractors
and the braying of one lonely
donkey
and a little girl who couldn't
speak.
She  rubbed fingers on his
nose.
So softly, she mumbled
something
that the flies did not
enjoy.
I expected her to
smile
but she wasn't
going to.
Shot a photo
anyway
but only in
memory,
far away
stuck
in my
eye.

Zach Wheat is a Texas native who spent his formative years in theater and his twenties in the dot com bubble in California. After escaping the world of cubicles, Zach traveled the South and West of America in a small Hyundai before moving to Israel to study at Bar-Ilan University for an MA in Creative Writing. He currently lives in Tel Aviv, where he divides his time between completing his thesis, writing and performing punk/roots Americana, and working as a diamond industry consultant for the Rapaport Group.
