The Man in Uniform
Memory of the Six-Day War, was six-years old |
|
I laid
on a naked
mattress
in a dusky
room
and heard
conversations
about the war
among
the adults.
In the darkness
I searched
for my father
and sometimes
dreamed
of sunny beaches
and bright moonlight.
I counted
time
on cracked
walls
and worried
faces
standing tall,
but mostly
I sat
in my own
spot
facing
the basement
door,
waiting
for the man
in uniform.
