The past catches up with you

You can’t live in the past, you have to move on.

I woke up in your photograph
long before my time
writing you from broken sleep
choosing fonts like wine

blinking at the frozen light
slipping back to dream
kisses from a drying lip
Pseudoephedrine

thoughts that sail uneasy
rolling in on tired waves
words you’ll never answer
read beyond the grave

two things that make no sense
a balloon and a dead black crow
floating into consciousness
no where else to go

burn the lasting memories
letters never sent
books I never borrowed
moments never meant

face my own worse enemy
this time without defeat
two moves I had forgotten
